There are Open Source games engines too, e.g. CrystalSpace.

There are other proprietary engines to consider if price is an
issue, e.g.  DirectX. Another one I feel obliged to mention (as an
ex-employee) is Q (http://qubesoft.com/q/engine.php) - this
multiplatform 3D games engine is free to download and has no
royalties (written by some of the same team that produced DirectX).
