This caught my attention, I've been too busy (unfortunately) lately
to post much. I rarely read side articles, especially for social
aspects, tending to prefer threads on tech, game systems, and pvp.

As a primary PvPer I'd have to agree that PK and PD do add alot to a
game. I don't believe that it's essential, but it's a major form of
competition which is necessary for any multiplayer game to thrive.

My personal opinion on it is that by playing a MU* where PK/PD is
possible, you have already consented to the possibility of being
attacked and/or dying.

I hate loosing a fight, but I find the most excitement when I'm
attacked without warning or consent. Prepared fights feel canned to
me, there's nothing like the thrill of being attacked and having to
think and react quickly.

Some people aren't cut out for that level of competition, which is I
believe the reason most people use Bartle's classifications,
Socializer, Explorer, Killer, Acheiver.

There are many levels of competition, PvP is generally more
satisfying especially if you're the winner.
