Sure that is them ASKING you what you want to be called in that
context.

Now imagine someone called out your character's name from afar.  Would
you answer or not?

For me, people call me by my EQ character's name all the time.  People
use my rl name and my EQ name interchangeably and I answer to either
just as easily.
