Just running the functionality of a text mud, even the low-end DSL is quite
capable of supporting all the necessary requirements for bandwidth. Although
we don't have the high usage rates that a lot of muds have, we have a
bandwidth average of about 3-6K/second. We've even had times (running
testing servers on the same machine) using twice or three times that much
with no visible latency.

However we also do our development on the machine, running a CVS repository
and we also run our website. Most of the time it's not a problem, but in
times of heavy web traffic to our site, or numerous code/database checkouts
(check-ins don't create as much of a problem because of the massive amount
of downstream the machine has in comparison to upstream), it can drag the
line to its knees.
