The latest issue of Asimov's Science Fiction (Feb 2001) has a short
story written by the tech support director of a New Mexico ISP that
might be of interest to some here. It's set about 100 years from now
in a society where people use a mechanism that allows them to perform
something along the lines of IRC's /ignore to block out people who
displease them and to make themselves invisible to people on their
exclusion lists. The protagonist essentially "lost" his girlfriend and
can't find out why.

I received mine via subscription, so I don't know if it's at the
newsstands yet.
