[Caliban:]

:I'm being deliberately cagey on the matter, because I've been rather
:quickly pounced on as a codebase bigot and/or someone who doesn't know
:what he's talking about every time I've tried to discuss it previously.
:I still haven't heard more than two or three people express an interest
:in participating in the discussion, and all of them seem to be of the
:opinion that the concept has merit but it will never work. I really
:don't feel like laying out a lot of work only to be told by two or three
:people that I'm just dreaming and a server like this can't even be
:written. The end result of such a thing is likely to be either I write a
:server that everyone hates, because the opinions of two or three people
:are not statistically valid, or I don't write a server and people smirk
:and say 'yeah, right, *sure* it can be done'.

Gee, and I thought I was being encouraging! Oh well. If folks who
have implemented servers (and there are more than 2 or 3 in this list,
so there are some whose opinions we haven't heard yet), don't think it
is a workable thing, then there is a good chance it isn't. Since most
people tend to believe their own opinions, it is up to the one with the
differing opinion (you, in this case) to change their opinions. For my
part, I am best convinced by example - I tend to be an eternal skeptic.
And, just because I'm not convinced and am vocal, it doesn't mean that
the majority of the world won't embrace your ideas with open arms -
after all, I'm still not convinced of the merit of C++, WindowsXXX,
perl, tcl, multiple inheritance, rock music, social welfare, etc. etc.
