The standard case is where a character has started an action which will
consume time, and which he cannot interrupt.  Shades used to have one when
sliding down the pendulmn in th Black Tower.  It took a while to slide
down and discover if you lived or died (its now instantaneous), with the
game gradually replaying the script for your slide, flails, bounce off the
bob at the end, and sucessful landing, falling off, or missing of the
crystal bridge at the bottom of the tower,
