1st time reply, been reading for a while now. im a fan of perma
death so i will add my 2 cents.

i havent gotten around to the old age thing yet, but so much other
things to do yet. never nuff time. anyway, on the mud i run, i
went with difficulties, normal (no pd), and 3 perma death varities
that gain karma when they level, loosing a karma when they die.
giving an extra bump in power to the higher difficulties (those with
less lives). ive found that this actually promotes people to play
perma death characters, leaving the normal live me for ever
characters in the dust (since they dont gain karma). harder
difficulties gain less karma over time. the kicker, though, is that
adding vendors to sell special karma powers, that players buy with
their extra lives, further bringing that char closer to the eternal
demise, though making them stronger.

the best part, is that the people who never played perma death
characters didnt actualy run away and not play, and alot of them
which screamed it would 'suck' to perma die, actualy play perma
death characters now. it seems rather odd, not seeing many normals.

how ever, i feel its needed to eat an extra life on a perma death
for their actions to pk'ing someone. they will eventually die in
the end anyway, and if they annoy enough people, they will die
anyway.

good read,
~Kell <--- big perma death fan :)
