I played with it for the first time earlier this week.

I was totally unimpressed.

It was a slightly dressed up "Eliza". Very slightly dressed up.  It
made the same kind of pronoun errors and triggered on the exact same
keywords as the original Eliza from 30+ years ago. People who can't
put complex declarative and interrogative sentences may be easily
duped, but not many others. I'd chalk the "real person" chatter up
to the same kind of phenomenon as had the chatrooms all saying that
"Blair Witch is TRUE!" It is more interesting to make up stories
about supposed AI conversations than regurgitating the typical
Hello/Goodbye/Hugs/BRB/K3W1/LOL/U suck/Wanna Cyber? fare.

I've always thought that "conversational AI" suffers from the same
problem as McCloud* described with "realistic" drawings; the more
"realistic" you get, the more the differences from reality stand
out.

Perhaps the Skotos folks are having better luck?
