[MUD-Dev] ADMIN: Spam filters and being unsubscribed

Writing as list owner:

A number of you use various spam filters (often based around the
RBL or ORA), either on your own systems, or via your ISP, that
bounce messages that have headers indicating they passed through a
suspected spam site. This presents a possible problem.

The list server at Kanga.Nu is configured to unsubscribe members
whose emails bounce "too often". Addtionally, we have a number of
members who post from addresses on the RBL/ORA lists (eg iname.net).
The potential (and this just happened this morning), is that your
spam filters will bounce those messages back to the list server
resulting in YOUR getting unsubscribed from MUD-Dev. All that needs
to happen is for such a member to post often enough to send YOU over
the bounce limit and thus be unsubscribed.

I doubt this is what you want.

I'm not going to turn the automatic processing of bounces off. (It
saves me a LOT of work).

How to mitigate the problem depends on the exact implementation
and configuration of your spam filter and may be out of your
control. There are no simple canned answers here. If you do use
such a spam filter, please be aware of the risk, don't be surprised
if you see replies to messages you never saw, keep an eye out for
"You have been unsubscribed" messages, and periodically check the
archives periodically for messages you missed.
