A better way of referencing past list posts is to reference the
entry in the list archives.  In the case above:

  http://www.kanga.nu/archives/MUD-Dev-L/2000Q1/msg00734.html

It reduces ambiguity, ensures that your reader (and subsquent
archive readers) find(s) the exact post you intend, and it helps
simplify the whole process.  The archives for each day's traffic are
generated in the wee hours of the next morning.  

If you really need to reference a post made that day, and the
archives are genned yet, bitch at me.  I'm still toying with the
idea of dynamically genning the archives as the post come in, but
haven't turned it on yet (I'm trying to get posting replies from the
list archives working properly first)..

Raph: I just noticed that the rewrite rules for the list archives
from the petidomo days have fallen out in my SSL mucking.  No wonder
you were complaining at the dinner about the URL paths changing.
I'll get them back in tonight>>
