	All the purposes you mentioned apply to me. I'm subscribing
	to this list to learn and to stay up to date on the
	"state-of-the-art" in MUD development. Even though I've
	been tinkering with (Diku)MUDs for years, I confess being
	intimidated by the level of discussion by the regular
	posters. I feel I don't have much to contribute, and even
	when I do, I don't have time to write a useful contribution.

	I'm really interested in the social aspects of MUDding,
	in particular in connection with "asocial" behavioral
	patterns (such as "player-killing"). I've followed the
	"Marian's Tailor Problem" thread with keen interest, and I
	actually started formulating a reply, but I found myself
	digging out my old Sociology books from college and trying
	to come up with a research paper worthy of posting on the
	MUD-DEV list. :)
	
	I first started tinkering with MUDs because I was fascinated
	with the technology. My background is in DikuMUDs, and I
	still like the concept of combat-oriented MUDs. Lately,
	because of my work, I've experimented quite a lot with
	MUD development using Microsoft based tools (NT, Visual Studio,
	Active Server Pages, ADO/ODBC, COM/DCOM). I suspect a lot
	of people subscribing to this list are anti-Microsoft, and
	in order to not incite "OS wars", I've kept from bringing
	that up on MUD-DEV. I'm an average joe programmer, and
	for me, prototyping my ideas in Visual Basic is infinitely
	more productive than trying to crank them out in C/C++.

	I'm quite happy with MUD-DEV as it is, I think JCL has done
	fantastic job moderating the list.
