Ahh, file attachments. As a general rule I'd prefer such files to
be MIME attached rather than embedded in the message proper. They're
more manipulable in that way and don't interfere with reading the
normal textual body of the message. The problem of course is that
sometimes you want to discuss the contents of the attachment as if it
was a part of the base textual content of the message..

The list rules on the area read
(URL:http://www.kanga.nu/~petidomo/lists/mud-dev/#rules):

    --<cut>--

4.MIME, HTML, RichText and similar are discouraged. This encludes
"vcard" attachments from Netscape mail. Small MIME attachments,
such as a graphic used to illustrate a point discussed in the
text of a message are acceptable. The guiding rule is that the
brunt of the value of a message must always be in the text, and
that a message must be intelligable from its textual content
     alone.

    --<cut>--

Which doesn't really mention source files, and probably shouldn't
either as there are too many possible exceptions and I don't want to
discourage the exchange of or discussion of source clippings.

That all said, my preference, and this is not a moderator ruling, is
that unless the contents of file itself is be discussed in detail
(such as Amy Jo's Wired article which I posted here and which spawned
a short-lived thread) that they be posted as MIME attachments. This
puts the concentration of the attention on the base textual content of
the message, which is where it should be.

The web archives also handle MIME attachments just fine!

Not writing as list owner:

BTW: Neat implemenation there. Have you looked into BSX?
