Also varies with the situation, adreneline and such play a large aprt.

Cops have been knwon to continue with wehat hsoudl have been nasty and very
painful wounds as long as theyw ere in danger and only collapse when the
situation is past... survival is a wonderful motivator.

Its ALSO worth pointing otu that the msot relistic system from gun combat
I've ever seen was ina  VERY old TSR product-- "Boot Hill".  The same
bullet coudl caue anything from a minor scrape to instant death.  Theres
alot of luck involved in these thinsg in terms of wher ethe bullet hist the
body and how it riccochets inside...  

Granted certai nkinds of very difficult shots kill more of the time, and
soem kill less (ie leg wound less likely, head woudn more likely) but
people have both died from and survived both.
