Ah, good point, actually....

humans you know. Glhadrah females gestalt first stage, males gestalt
second stage marsupial style. Trae'laeci hermaphrodites are egg layers,
neuters or hermaphrodites can hatch. Oblian gestalt is handled by the
catalyst, who also contributes the secondary geneset. (analogous to our
mitochondric dna, but much more pronounced.) The oblian is actually a
fungoidal structure, with animaloid characteristics generated by those
same secondary genes. Male and female generate spores, catalyst catches
spores and uses a matched set to seed budding. The slipt use one of two
methods for reproduction: fission, and much more rarely, fusion/refission.
The second method is analogous to death, and is only employed when both
individuals have suffered a trauma of imense proportions, or have aged
over 12,000 years, which they find psychologically dangerous. The swarm
reproduces by internal creation of a new queen and fission, and the
remnant S#9 literally assemble their descendants (machines, after all.)
